As a volunteer during the Summer Jazz Band courses, Thomas worked with high school students aged 11 to 18 to help them learn and practice elements of the Jazz idiom. Thomas initiated private lessons with drummers which were highly appreciated by the students and had them asking for more. During full ensemble rehearsals, Thomas was very responsive to the needs of the students by providing positive feedback and advice as the group worked through repertoire.
