Lessons

What our lessons will look like:

Each lesson starts with a warm-up to get your hands and mind ready; that might include snare drum etudes, coordination exercises, rudiments or music listening. We’ll then dive into new concepts at a pace that fits your progress, ensuring you’re always building skills without feeling overwhelmed. Examples can range from sight-reading, learning rhythms from different parts of the world, improvising fills and solos, specific hand techniques, drum tuning, and much, much more. I make a point of teaching musically so I then dedicate about a third of each lesson to learning your favorite songs. Finally, we typically wrap up with listening games and exercises to sharpen your ear and rhythm.

Every step is tailored to your interests and challenges, keeping lessons engaging while staying focused on long-term growth.

At the end of every semester, I will record, mix and master your performance of a song we learned, a solo transcription, or an improvised solo.

That way, you have a goal to work towards and a nice recording to show off to your friends ;-)

Teaching Goals

As your teacher, one of my biggest goals is to make you crazy about drums. I want you to think of drums when you're walking to work, AT work and on your way back from work. I want to make you appreciate how beautiful this instrument is and how fun it is to play it.

On a more serious note, my primary goal is to show you not only what to learn but more importantly how to learn, to give you the tools to learn by yourself, to tackle new grooves on your own or to make your own tailored practice routines.

Drumming Experience

I've been playing the drums since I was 6 and originally started with rock, pop and metal. Since then, I have studied musical genres such as classical, reggae, Brazilian and Afro-Cuban under renowned educators such as Jim Doxas, Darrell Green, Joao Catalao, Rodrigo Simoes, Dayron Luis and Lazaro Martinez. In 2021, I was selected to play with MusicFest's National Conn-Selmer Centerstage Jazz Band with which I won multiple awards such as "Ludwig Canadian Drummer of the Year" and "Dream Cymbals Big Band Drummer of the Year." I am currently completing my Bachelors of Jazz Performance at McGill University (graduating class of 2025) and playing with artists and bands around Montreal.
